The Optimists or "optis" for short, are the largest class of sailboats for youth racing in the world. Most great sailors got their start on the tiny 7 feet 9 inch long optimist.

It's the perfect size sailboat for children since most of the rigging is simplified and easy enough for a child to handle. Their boxy hull shape makes them very stable albeit slightly slow in moderate winds, but experienced opti sailors know these boats can perform great in a fresh breeze as well.

We use these boats for youth lessons and the summer sailing program.
