Tours take place on Jamaica Bay
New York City's largest open space.
In Rockaway, on the very edge of NYC, Jamaica Bay is an estuary nearly the size of Manhattan. Steady ocean breeze and peaceful open surroundings make for fantastic sailing and some spectacular sunsets. The sailboats are the unique Norfolk Oyster "Christina", and our newest boat The Drascombe Lugger. Our aim is to get you comfortable on the water. Our cruising ground is an expansive array of small bays, marked channels, sandy shorelines and mixed parkland. Every sailing tour is private and a minimum of 2 hours covering at least 6+ miles round trip. Wind and tide will help decide our course for the day. Passengers are given the chance to try their hand at sailing the boat during the tour if they wish.
The nearby JoCo Marsh remains the largest example of the last surviving original saltmarsh of Jamaica Bay. Tall grass marshlands line the banks of several winding creeks that provide critical habitat to the birds and aquatic species which live here.
