Tours take place on Jamaica Bay; New York City's largest open space.
An estuary nearly twice the area of Manhattan lays before us. Here on the very edge of NYC we will set sail upon Jamaica Bay; a realm that exists within yet without the rest of New York city. Pop a bottle, soak up the sunset, stretch out and catch some ray's. You can even help sail the boat and learn a bit. The world is your oyster. Within a hundred yards distance from the dock the signs of civilization start to fade away. Lush greenery dominates the landscape as we are flanked on both sides by wild parkland. Eventually the waters widen before us as we enter into Jamaica Bay proper. Directly to our north is Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge; the green heart of the bay. Grassy marshland and deserted islands interlaced with myriad channels are within reach. Ospreys, hawks, herons, and egrets are but a few of the birds that you can spy via the boats binoculars. If you'd like to get your feet wet or do a little shore-side exploration then we can drop anchor at one of several secluded areas. Swimming is an option. There are also 4 different restaurants with docks where you can grab a drink or call in an order to bring aboard. My boat, the Norfolk Oyster, is as safe and stable as she is beautiful, but it should be known that sailing is best undertaken by the able bodied & optimistic individual.
