 SAILING 2

Pre-Requisite: Beginner Sail
Duration:  4 hours
Cost: $240


  • Safety review on dock
  • Begin the lesson by tying a few knots with explanations on how they are used.  
  • An overview is given on outboard engine operation.
  • We will cast-off under motor and raise the sails out on the water.
  • Practice tacks and gybes. Student handles sheets and tiller in unison.
  • All points of sail will be practiced.
  • Basic navigation using channel markers is discussed and demonstrated
  • Considerations for docking the boat are discussed and a plan is made.

  • Student and Instructor discuss choices for casting off the dock under sail or under motor.
  • Together we raise sails and practice maneuvers both on the sheets and the tiller.
  • The effects of tidal currents and wind are discused and demonstrated.
  • Student is encouraged to navigate a course using the channel markers.
  • Plotting a basic course and the crucial decisions  as to:
  • ​(1) what heading we shall take,
  • (2) the trim of the sail, and
  • (3) when to tack.
  • Considerations for docking the boat are discussed and a plan is made.
