Basic Sailing ONE
​


This course is designed to instill basic sailing techniques and allow the student to get comfortable while in control of the sailboat.
Duration: 1.5-2 hours
Cost: $180. Bring up to 3 friends for $40 extra per person.

  • Students will become familiarized with safety protocol before getting underway.
  • The basic elements of which the sailboat is comprised such as hull, steering, keel, standing and running rigging etc will be discussed along with commands that are used when under-sail.
  • We hoist the sails and get underway.
  • The student is encouraged to start steering with the tiller while considering wind direction.
  • We will go over all the different "points-of-sail" and how to efficiently maneuver the boat.​

  • The student is shown how to raise the mainsail, and bend the jib-sail.
  • Setting up the sheet-lines, the student will be taught a few knots: the cleat knot and several kinds of stopper knots .
  • We practice all the different points-of-sail: close-haul, beam-reach, broad-reach, run, and in-irons.
  • The student will be encouraged to handle the main-sheet and jib-sheet, which control the trim of the sails, while the instructor or additional student handles the tiller.​
  • Student is ready on dock lines. ​
